Initially we wanted to find somewhere different for breakfast and so we set out at about 9am to look for a suitable cafe. However there was a cool wind and Suzy's foot was sore and so we soon turned around and went to the hotel restaurant again.
I ordered a meal that I'd never heard of before: clay baked eggs. They bake the eggs in a metal dish for 20 minutes. The eggs were on a bed of beans. It was quite tasty. Certainly different.
At about 12 noon, we set out to travel to Fremantle for the afternoon. The railway station is at the other end of Murray Mall. It is a very modern and new railway that looks like a metro system. We bought seniors concession tickets from the ticket machines.
For someone with a sore foot, it was a long journey along the spacious walkways to reach platform 7 - arriving just in time for a train waiting at the station. The journey took 30 minutes stopping at each station along the way.
At Fremantle, there are two free bus serves that travel in a loop around the city. We caught the blue CAT bus and got off at stop 17 which is next to the shipwreck museum. The museum was very impressive . Well worth a visit.
For lunch, we went to the Bathers Boathouse with a table overlooking the beach.
After lunch I walked to a nearby tourist site that is described as one of the oldest buildings in WA. Referred to as "The Roundhouse" it used to be a jail and is now a museum.
On the way back, we walked a couple of blocks to get the red bus back to the railway station. We were back at the hotel at about 4:30pm.
For dinner we decided to walk down to Elizabeth Quays which is only about 10 minutes walk from the hotel. I had expected something like Darling Harbour but it was quite different. Instead of crowds of people, it was a wide open area with perhaps a dozen people. At least the scenery was attractive.
Suzy found a restaurant online back up the hill, The Meat & Wine Co. That seemed like the perfect place to go and that's how it turned out. It's an excellent restaurant with great atmosphere, great food and wine.
By the time we got back to the hotel, Suzy was saying it hadn't been a good idea to walk down there and back. Her foot was very sore.
